Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 628/2010

European Union (EU)* : Temporary Tariff Suspension for Certain Industrial,
Agricultural and Fishery Products

Further to the Commercial Information Circular No. 309/2010 of 2 July 2010, the Council of the EU (the Council) has adopted a regulation amending the list of products of which import tariffs will be partially or totally suspended. The regulation can be accessed through the following link :
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2010:347:0009:0026:EN:PDF.

DETAILS

  1. Temporary tariff suspension applies to products which the Union does not have sufficient supply to meet the needs. Products for which tariff duties are temporarily suspended can be imported into the Union at reduced or zero rate automatically, regardless of origin and quantity.

  1. The Council has amended tariff suspension to a number of products because of the prevailing interest of the Union. At the same time, description of some suspensions has been modified in order to take account of technical product developments and economic trends on the market. Besides, it is considered necessary to provide for an expiry date to the suspensions to ensure that account is taken of technological and economic changes. Details of the amendments to the product coverage are set out in the regulation and its annex. The regulation shall apply from 1 January 2011.
