Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 478/2009

European Union (EU)* : Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 57/2009 of 30 January 2009, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted a Regulation amending the lists of classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures. Details are set out in the Commission Regulation (EC) 790/2009 (the Regulation), which can be accessed through the following link:
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2009:235:0001:0439:EN:PDF

DETAIL

  1. To update the classifications for substances already subject to harmonised classifications, and to reflect the recently adopted amendments in other Commission Directives and Regulations, the Regulation has revised Part 3 of Annex VI to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 regarding two lists of harmonised classification and labelling of hazardous substances. Details are set out in the Annexes of the Regulation. To allow sufficient time for operators to adapt to the labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures under the new classifications, and to comply with the registration obligations under REACH, the amendments shall apply from 1 December 2010. However, operators readily adapted to the new harmonised classifications can also apply them before 1 December 2010.
