Commercial Information Circular No. 188/2009

European Union (EU)* : Community Eco-Label Award Scheme

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 67/2009 of 6 February 2009, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted a Decision to revise the ecological criteria for televisions under the Community Eco-label Award Scheme. Details are set out in Commission Decision 2009/300/EC (the Decision). The Decision can be accessed through the following link:

DETAILS

  1. Under the Decision, the product group "televisions" has been defined to comprise mains powered electronic equipment, which primary purpose and function is to receive, decode and display TV transmission signals. To qualify for the Community eco-label, a television must meet specific ecological criteria set out in the Annex of the Decision. This includes criteria on energy savings, mercury content of fluorescent lamps, life-time extension, design for disassembly, heavy metals and flame retardants, and user instructions.

  2. The revised ecological criteria and the related assessment and verification requirements shall apply from 1 November 2009 and be valid until 31 October 2013.
