European Union (EU)* : Ecodesign Requirements for Fluorescent Lamps, High Intensity Discharge Lamps, Ballasts and Luminaries

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 331/2005 of 17 August 2005, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted a Regulation specifying the ecodesign requirements for fluorescent lamps without integrated ballast, high intensity discharge lamps, ballasts and luminaries able to operate the lamps.   2. The Regulation specifies the ecodesign requirements, conformity assessment and verification procedures for fluorescent lamps without integrated ballast, high intensity discharge lamps, ballasts and luminaries able to operate the lamps, even when they are integrated into other energy-using products. Details of the eco-design requirements are set out in Annex III of the Regulation. There are also general exemptions to the Regulations, which are listed in Annex I of the Regulation.
     
  3. With the implementation of the Regulation, Directive 2000/55/EC on energy efficiency requirements for ballasts for fluorescent lighting shall be repealed with effect from 13 April 2010.
