January 2008
Dear Sirs,
Commercial
Information Circular No. 48/2008
Turkey:
Safeguard Actions on Mainland's Textiles and Clothing Products
Further to the
Commercial Information Circular No. 33/2007 dated 11 January 2007, Turkey
has announced that it will continue to apply quantitative restrictions
on certain textiles and clothing (T&C) products from the Mainland
in 2008.
DETAILS
-
The Turkish
authorities announced by way of a circular on 28 December 2007 that
an investigation had established that the market disruption and threat
of market disruption caused by the T&C imports from the Mainland
had threatened the orderly development of trade. They have therefore
decided to unilaterally impose quantitative limits on the imports
of 20 groups of Mainland's T&C products for another year with
effect from 1 January 2008. Shipments of the products concerned will
have to be covered by proper import licences. In this connection,
traders are reminded to confirm with their buyers or importers on
details of the import arrangements before arranging export of the
relevant T&C products originating in the Mainland.
-
A copy of the
unofficial translation of the Turkish circular is at Annex
(pdf format) . Details of the quota levels for individual groups and
a conversion table between the group number and customs tariff position
are at Appendix I and Appendix II of the Turkish circular respectively.
