Commercial Information Circular No. 353/2008

European Union (EU)* : Result of Expiry Review of the Anti-dumping Measures on Imports of Powdered Activated Carbon Originating in the Mainland of China

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 237/2007 of 13 June 2007, the Council of the EU has published a regulation announcing the decision to maintain the anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of powdered activated carbon originating in the Mainland of China consequent to an expiry review.   2. Salient points are set out below - 

(a) Product  : Powdered activated carbon, falling within CN code ex 3802 10 00 (TARIC code 3802 10 00 20).
(b) Rate of Duty : EUR 323 per tonne (net weight)
(c) Effective Date : 11 July 2008
(d) Duration : Five years

BACKGROUND

  1. Definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of powdered activated carbon originating in the Mainland of China has been imposed since 6 June 1996 and extended for another five years starting from 15 June 2002 subsequent to the first expiry review.
     
  2. On the basis of a request lodged by the European Chemical Industry Council on behalf of producers representing more than 50% of the total Community production of powdered activated carbon, the Commission initiated the second expiry review on 13 June 2007.
