Commercial Information Circular No. 308/2008

European Union (EU)* :  Imposition of Provisional Anti-dumping Duty on Imports of Monosodium Glutamate Originating in the Mainland of China

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 332/2007 of 5 September 2007, the European Commission (the Commission) has published a regulation to impose a provisional anti-dumping duty on imports of monosodium glutamate originating in the Mainland of China. The regulation can be accessed through the following link :

  1. Salient points are set out below- 
(a) Product  : Monosodium glutamate, falling within CN code ex 2922 42 00 (TARIC code 2922 42 00 10).
(b) Rate of Duty : 39.7% of the net, free-at-Community-frontier price before duty (except for 2 companies whose individual duty rates are 33.8% and 36.5% respectively).
(c) Effective Date : 5 June 2008 (the duty will apply for 6 months).
(d) Collection of Duty : The release of the product for free circulation in the Community shall be subject to the provision of a security equivalent to the amount of the provisional duty.
(e) Time Limit for Comments : Interested parties may request disclosure of the essential facts and considerations on the basis of which the regulation was adopted, make their views known in writing and apply to be heard by the Commission within one month from 5 June 2008.
