Dear Sirs,
Commercial Information Circular No. 80/2007
European Union (EU)* : Community Eco-label Award Scheme
Further to Commercial Information Circulars No. 508/2006 of 20 December 2006, the European Commission has adopted a Decision to establish the new ecological criteria for growing media. Details are set out in Commission Decision 2007/64/EC (the Decision). The Decision can be accessed through the following link : http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/site/en/oj/2007/l_032/l_03220070206en01370143.pdf.
DETAILS
- Under the new Decision, the product group "growing media" shall comprise materials other than soils in situ, in which plants are grown. To qualify for the Community eco-label, the growing media must comply with the new ecological criteria on certain areas including ingredients, hazardous substances, product performance, health and safety etc. Details are set out in the Annex of the Decision. The revised ecological criteria will be valid for four years.
- To allow sufficient time for producers to adapt to the revision, eco-label awarded to soil improver and growing media before 1 October 2006 may continue to be used until 30 April 2008. For applications of eco-label made before 1 October 2006, eco-label may still be awarded under the terms of previous ecological criteria which are applicable until 28 August 2007. Eco-label so awarded in these cases may also be used until 30 April 2008.
