BACKGROUND
- Definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of silicon carbide originating in the mainland of China has been imposed since 14 April 1994, and extended for another five years starting from 27 May 2000 subsequent to an expiry review. The rate of duty is 52.6% of the net, free-at-Community-frontier price before duty.
- In February 2005, the European Chemical Industry Council requested an expiry review alleging that there would be a continuation or recurrence of dumping and injury to the Community industry with the expiry of the anti-dumping duty. The Commission therefore initiated an expiry review on 26 May 2005. The anti-dumping duty remained in force pending the outcome of the expiry review.
