Dear Sirs,
Commercial Information Circular No. 153/2006
European Union (EU)* : Tariff Quota for Garlic
Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 83/2006 of 7 March 2006, we have received information concerning the quota allocation result for garlic imported under the temporary tariff quota introduced following the EU enlargement on 1 May 2004. Details are set out in Commission Regulation (EC) No. 620/2006 (the Regulation), a copy (pdf format) of which is attached to this circular.
DETAILS
- Commercial Information Circular No. 83/2006 informed the trade that the European Commission (the Commission), with the objective of ensuring uninterrupted supplies of garlic to the enlarged EU market, has opened a temporary tariff quota of 4,400 tonnes for imports of fresh or chilled garlic (CN code 0703 2000) from third countries, including the mainland of China. The tariff quota allows garlic to be imported into the EU at the reduced ad valorem duty rate of 9.6%. The normal duty rate will resume when imports reach the quota limit.
- The Commission has announced that licence applications submitted under the foregoing arrangements have exceeded the tariff quota. Pursuant to the Regulation, import licence applications for garlic submitted between 3 and 7 April 2006 and sent to the Commission by 18 April 2006 shall be issued at the rate of 13.452% and 1.005% of the applied quantities respectively for traditional importers and new importers.
