28 December 2005

Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 552/2005

European Union (EU)* : Termination of Reinvestigation of the Anti-dumping Measures on Imports of Sodium Cyclamate Originating in the Mainland of China

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 155/2005 of 5 May 2005, the European Commission (the Commission) has published a decision to terminate the reinvestigation of the anti-dumping measures imposed on imports of sodium cyclamate originating in the mainland of China. A copy of the decision is at Annex (pdf format) for reference.

DETAILS

  1. On 27 April 2005, the Commission initiated a reinvestigation at the request of Productos Aditivos S.A., the sole producer of sodium cyclamate in the Community, to ascertain whether the existing anti-dumping measures had had effects on the export prices, resale prices or subsequent selling prices in the Community.
  2. The investigation revealed that absorption of the anti-dumping duties had not occurred, since no decease in the export price was found and the decrease observed in the resale prices in the Community of sodium cyclamate originating in the mainland of China was less than it could have been expected from the exchange rate fluctuations. In light of such findings, the Commission decided that the absorption reinvestigation of the anti-dumping measures imposed on imports of sodium cyclamate originating in the mainland of China should be terminated with effect from 25 December 2005.

BACKGROUND

  1. Definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of sodium cyclamate originating in the mainland of China has been imposed since 12 March 2004. The rate of duty is EUR 0.26 per kilo (except for three companies with individual duty rates ranging from EUR 0 to EUR 0.11 per kilo).
