7 July 2005

Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 239/2005

European Union (EU)* : Temporary Tariff Suspension for Certain Industrial, Agricultural and Fishery Products

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 14/2005 of 7 January 2005, the Council of the EU has adopted a regulation amending the list of products of which import tariffs will be partially or totally suspended. A copy (pdf format) of the Council Regulation (EC) No. 989/2005 is attached for reference.

DETAILS

  1. Temporary tariff suspension applies to products which the Community does not have sufficient supply to meet the needs of its industries. Products for which tariff duties are temporarily suspended can be imported into the Community at reduced or zero rate automatically, regardless of origin and quantity.

  2. The Council's latest amendment, which took effect on 1 July 2005, has extended tariff suspension to a number of new products, covering mainly chemical products, plastic products, and electrical equipment. At the same time, certain previously listed products have been removed from the list of products the tariffs of which are partially or totally suspended.
