European Union (EU)* : Initiation of a Reinvestigation of the Anti-dumping Measures on Imports of Sodium Cyclamate Originating in the Mainland of China

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 79/2004 of 24 March 2004, the European Commission (the Commission) has published a notice to initiate a reinvestigation of the anti-dumping measures imposed on imports of sodium cyclamate originating in the mainland of China. A copy of the notice is at Annex (pdf format) for reference.

DETAILS

Grounds for the Reinvestigation

  1. On the basis of a request lodged by Productos Aditivos S.A., the sole producer of sodium cyclamate in the Community, the Commission initiated a reinvestigation on 27 April 2005 to ascertain whether the existing anti-dumping measures have had effects on the export prices, resale prices or subsequent selling prices in the Community.

Reinvestigation Procedure

  1. Salient points of the reinvestigation are set out below-
(a) Date of Publication of the Notice of Initiation  :  27 April 2005
(b) Product Coverage Sodium cyclamate classified within CN code ex 2929 90 00 (this CN code is given for information only).
(c) Procedures  : In order to obtain information for the reinvestigation, the Commission will send questionnaires to the exporters/producers of the mainland of China, importers, and the authorities of the mainland of China. 

All interested parties who did not co-operate in the investigation leading to the measures subject to the present reinvestigation should request a copy of the questionnaire within 15 days from 27 April 2005.

All interested parties may make their views known in writing (including submitting questionnaire replies) and provide supporting evidence to the Commission, and also apply to be heard by the Commission within 40 days from 27 April 2005, unless otherwise specified.

Background

  1. Definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of sodium cyclamate originating in the mainland of China has been imposed since 12 March 2004. The rate of duty is EUR 0.26 per kilo (except for three companies with individual duty rates ranging from EUR 0 to EUR 0.11 per kilo).
