Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 113/2004

European Union (EU)* :Amendment to Regulation Setting Maximum Levels for Certain Contaminants in Foodstuffs

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 78/2002 of 18 April 2002, the European Commission has adopted an amendment to Commission Regulation (EC) No. 466/2001 to lay down the maximum level of nitrate allowed in baby foods and processed cereal-based foods for infants and young children. The level will apply with effect from 1 October 2004. Products already placed on the Community market before that date will be exempted from the requirement. The burden of proving when the products were placed on the market will be borne by the food business operator. Details are set out in Commission Regulation (EC) No. 655/2004, a copy of which is attached (pdf format) to this circular for reference.
