Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 247/02

European Union (EU)* : Amendment to Regulation on Marketing Standards for Olive Oil

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 203/2002 of 12 October 2002, the European Commission (EC) has recently adopted an amendment to Commission Regulation No. 1019/2002 which sets out the marketing standards for olive oil. The purpose of the amendment is to give operators enough time to adjust to the new packaging and labelling rules for olive oil. As a result, the requirement to pack olive oil in packaging of not more than five litres with an appropriate opening system will only be applied from 1 November 2003. Products which have been manufactured in or imported into the EU before 1 November 2003 may be marketed until all stocks are used up. For further details, please see the attached (pdf format) Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1964/2002.
