European Union (EU)*:Marketing Standards for Cultivated Mushrooms
The European Commission (EC) has adopted a Regulation laying down the marketing standards for cultivated mushrooms. The Regulation shall take effect from 1 January 2003. Details are set out in Commission Regulation (EC) No. 982/2002, a copy of which is appended (pdf format) to this Circular for reference.

The marketing standards apply to cultivated mushrooms of genus Agaricus (falling within CN code 0709 5100) which are to be supplied fresh to consumers. Mushrooms intended for industrial processing are excluded. The marketing standards which include specific criteria on areas including quality, presentation and marking are applicable at all marketing stages. The purposes of applying these standards are to remove products of unsatisfactory quality from the market, bring production into line with consumer requirements and facilitate trade based on fair competition.
