Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 41/01

South Africa : Final Determination on Interim Review of Anti-dumping
Measures on Imports of Stainless Steel Hollowware

Further to Commercial Information Circulars No. 40/99 of 25 March 1999 and No. 51/00 of 20 April 2000, the Board on Tariffs and Trade (BTT) of South Africa has decided to cease naming Hong Kong in its anti-dumping measures imposed on imports of stainless steel hollowware originating in the mainland of China consequent to an interim review. Details are set out below.

DETAILS

  1. The BTT imposed on 21 October 1998 definitive anti-dumping duties on imports of stainless steel hollowware originating in the mainland of China. Apart from duties imposed on stainless steel hollowware originating in the mainland of China in general, specific duty rates, at R20.98/kg (except for two companies ranging from zero to R15.63/kg) for tariff subheading 7323 9320 and R13.85/kg (except for two companies ranging from zero to R15.63/kg) for tariff subheading 7323 9390, were imposed on stainless steel hollowware originating in the mainland of China and exported through Hong Kong.

  2. Subsequent to an interim review, the BTT has decided to maintain the anti-dumping measures on imports of stainless steel hollowware originating in the mainland of China with revised rates and not to assign specific duty rates on Chinese stainless steel hollowware exported from Hong Kong. The specific duty rates involving Hong Kong mentioned in paragraph 2 have been terminated effective from 5 January 2001.
