Commercial Information Circulars

Ref : EIC 230/2/3/2/13 VIII

28 April 1998

Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 51/98

European Union (EU) : Imposition of Definitive Anti-dumping Duty on Imports of Tungsten Carbide and Fused Tungsten Carbide Originating in the
People's Republic of China (PRC)

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 128/95 of 4 October 1995, the Council of the European Union has published a regulation in the Official Journal of the European Communities to impose a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of tungsten carbide and fused tungsten carbide originating in the PRC after the conclusion of an expiry review. A copy of the regulation is appended to this circular for reference.

DETAILS

The European Commission initiated in September 1995 an expiry review of the anti-dumping measures imposed on tungsten carbide and fused tungsten carbide originating in the PRC since September 1990. Findings of the review indicated that in the absence of anti-dumping measures, there is a likelihood of a recurrence of injury to the Community industry. The Commission therefore decided to maintain the anti-dumping measures on the products. Details of the measure are as follows :

  1. Products:           Tungsten carbide and fused tungsten carbide, falling within CN code 2849 9030;
  2. Rate of Duty:      33% of the net, free-at-community-frontier price, before duty; and
  3. Effective Date:   10 April 1998.
