India : Safeguard Measure on Sodium Nitrite

According to a communication circulated by the World Trade Organization (WTO), India has imposed a safeguard measure on the imports of sodium nitrite classified under the India Customs Tariff Heading 2834.1010.  The communication (with document symbol G/SG/N/8/IND/24) can be obtained from the WTO's website at <http://docsonline.wto.org>.

DETAILS

2. Salient points of India's safeguard measure are set out below –

(a) Product Coverage	:	Sodium Nitrite classifiable under the India Customs Tariff Heading 2834.1010
(b) Duration	:	27 January 2014 - 26 April 2015
(c) Additional Duty Rates	:	Duration	Safeguard Duty
		27 January 2014 - 26 January 2015	rate of 30% ad valorem
		27 January 2015 - 26 April 2015	rate of 28% ad valorem
(d) Exemption	:	Imports of the concerned products originating from the Mainland of China are subject to the safeguard measure. Imports into India from other developing countries and separate customs territories, including Hong Kong, are not subject to the safeguard measure. Please refer to the above-mentioned WTO communication for details of the exemption.
