The Mainland of China : Suspension of the Trade Barrier Investigation against
 Restrictive Measures of Japan on Laver Import

The Ministry of Commerce issued Notice No. 16/2004 on 22 April 2004, announcing the initiation of trade barrier investigation against restrictive measures of Japan on laver import. The measures under investigation include the quota system maintained by Japan on laver import, and the approval and quota allocation methods on import of certain processed laver products.

  1. During the investigation period, the Ministry of Commerce held three rounds of consultation with relevant departments of the Japanese government. The relevant Japanese departments lately committed to take effective measures to address China's concerns. In accordance with the results of the investigation and the consultations, as well as Article 22 of the "Provisional Regulations on Trade Barrier Investigation", the Ministry of Commerce decided to suspend this investigation.
  1. Interested parties and the public may submit written representations on the decision to the Ministry of Commerce within 30 days from the date of the announcement (i.e. 21 October 2004). The contact details of the Bureau of Fair Trade for Imports and Exports are as follows:
