Commercial Information Circular No. 866/2013

Uruguay : Extension of Import Ban on Used Motor Vehicles

The Uruguayan government issued Circular No. 2065/2013 on 29 August 2013 to extend the import ban on used motor vehicles for 180 days from 31 August 2013.

2. The used motor vehicles which are banned from imports are: (i) automobiles and light-weight commercial vehicles (with a maximum load capacity of 1500 kg); (ii) minibuses; (iii) lorries; (iv) lorry-tractors for semi-trailers; (v) chassis with or without an engine; (vi) trailers or semi-trailers; (vii) bodies and/or cabs; and (viii) motorcycles (including mopeds) and velocipedes equipped with an auxiliary engine, with or without sidecar, sidecars, and used parts and accessories of such vehicles.

3. Motor vehicles which are excluded from import ban are: (i) special vehicles that cannot be assembled domestically; (ii) foreign donations for non-profit purposes; (iii) cabins for vehicles classified under Harmonized Tariff System headings 8704.22, 8704.23 and 8704.32; (iv) sports or classic vehicles used for more than 20 years intended for exhibitions or competitions; and (v) special vehicles for the transport of passengers in sport fields.
