Commercial Information Circular No. 774/2013

Argentina : Establishment of Traceability System for Phytosanitary and Veterinary Substances

The Argentine government issued Resolution No. 369/2013 on 6 August 2013 to establish a traceability system for certain phytosanitary and veterinary substances. All persons and companies engaged in the importation, manufacturing, segregation, sale or exportation of products registered in the National Plant Protection Registry or the National Veterinary Products Registry must register for the traceability system.

2.The traceability system will identify each product by a unique code and require the participating entities in the system to provide information in real time on the movement of the product until it is sold.  

3.Information to be coded are:  

•  Active phytosanitary products: (1) Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) in accordance with Global Standard One (GS1);
(2) batch number;
(3) manufacture date;
(4) expiry date
•  Formulated phytosanitary products: (1) GTIN;
(2) batch number;
(3) serial number;
(4) manufacture date;
(5) expiry date
•  Active veterinary products: (1) GTIN;
(2) batch number;
(3) expiry date
•  Formulated veterinary products: (1) GTIN;
(2) batch number;
(3) serial number;
(4) expiry date

4.Importers, synthesisers, formulators and segregators of active and formulated phytosanitary products, and importers and manufacturers of active and formulated veterinary products must participate in the traceability system by 8 February 2014, while other entities must comply by 7 August 2014 .
