Commercial Information Circular No. 705/2013

Brazil: Modification of Import Tariffs

The Brazilian government has modified the import tariffs of a number of products.  A summary of the changes is set out as follows:

  1. Certain biaxially-oriented polypropylene film with an acrylic polymer coating classified under Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR1) Common Classification (NCM) code 3920.20.19 Ex 001 would benefit from a reduced duty of 16% from 20 June 2013.     
  2. Certain information technology and telecommunications goods classified under NCM codes 8471.49.00 Ex 003, 8517.62.39 Ex 001, 8517.62.59 Ex 017, 8517.62.94 Ex 001, 8517.70.10 Ex 004, 8517.70.99 Ex 007, 8523.59.10 Ex 001, 8543.70.99 Ex 001, 8543.70.99 Ex 092, 9030.89.90 Ex 035 and 9032.89.89 Ex 004 will benefit from a reduced duty of 2% from 24 June 2013 until 31 December 2014.  This duty reduction does not apply to used, remanufactured, reconditioned and renovated goods.
  3. Certain capital goods classified in NCM Chapters 84-85, 87, and 89-90 will benefit from a reduced duty of 2% from 24 June 2013 until 31 December 2014.  This duty reduction does not apply to used, remanufactured, reconditioned and renovated goods.
  4. Certain kidney beans classified under NCM codes 0713.33.19 and 0713.33.99 were added to the list of exceptions to the MERCOSUR common external tariff from 24 June 2013 until 30 November 2013.  The MFN duty rate for the subject products has been reduced to zero.
  5. Certain preserved peaches classified under NCM code 2008.70.90 will be excluded from the list of exceptions to the MERCOSUR common external tariff and its duty rate will be raised from 35% to 55% with effect from 1 December 2013.
