Commercial Information Circular No. 504/2013

Chile : Ban on Sale of Certain Non-compliant Electrical Appliances

The Chilean government issued Circular No. 858 in May 2013 to prohibit the sale of certain electrical appliances.

2.Certain electrical appliances, such as ice-cream makers and hair dryers, were issued certificate of compliance between December 2011 and November 2012, but were subsequently found to be non-compliant with a provision of the mandatory standard IEC 60335-1:2010 that precludes appliances from having an enclosure that is shaped or decorated like a toy. Examples of such enclosures are those representing animals, characters, persons or scale models.

3.Non-compliance appliances are not to be marketed in Chile. Administrative actions will be initiated against certification bodies, test laboratories and any other parties involved in the certification of the subject merchandise.
