Commercial Information Circular No. 443/2013

Brazil: Conformity Certification Requirement for Steel Cables for General Purposes Amended

The National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil issued Decree No. 181 in April 2013 to amend the conformity certification requirements for steel cables for general purposes.

2. Steel cables must be manufactured or imported in compliance with the amended certification requirements by 15 April 2015. Steel cables sold in the domestic market must comply with the amended certification requirements by 15 April 2017.

3.The Decree also clarifies that steel cables manufactured or used exclusively for mining, aircraft control, oil and natural gas industries, aerial ropeways and funiculars, passenger lifts or fishing are excluded from the amended certification requirements.

4.For details of the certification requirements, traders are advised to consult their importers in Brazil and/or the abovementioned Brazilian Decree No. 181 (in Portuguese), which is available at http://www.inmetro.gov.br/legislacao/rtac/pdf/RTAC001972.pdf.
