Commercial Information Circular No. 14/2013

Brazil : Modification of Import Tariffs on Various Products and Adjustments to Tariff Schedule

The Brazilian government has modified the import tariffs of a number of products. A summary of the changes is set out as follows:

  1. Certain medicaments under Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) Common Classification (NCM) codes 3004.50.90, 3004.90.39 and 3004.90.69 have been excluded from the list of exceptions to the common external tariff from 31 October 2012. They are now subject to a duty of 8%.

  2. Certain machinery under NCM code 8433.60.21 has been excluded from the list of exceptions to the common external tariff from 31 October 2012. They are now subject to a duty of 14%.

  3. Import tariff of certain live bovine animals under NCM code 0102.90.22 has been reduced from 2% to zero from 31 October 2012.

  4. Import tariffs of certain computers and telecommunication products classified under NCM codes 8471.60.53, 9030.89.90 and 9032.89.30, excluding used, re-manufactured, re-packaged products, or those subject to any kind of reformulation, have been reduced to 2% from 14 November 2012 until 30 June 2014.

  5. Import tariff of certain computers and telecommunication products classified under NCM code 8543.70.99, excluding used, re-manufactured, re-packaged products, or those subject to any kind of reformulation, has been reduced to zero from 14 November 2012 until 31 March 2013.

  6. Import tariffs of certain capital goods classified under NCM chapters 84,85,87 and 90, excluding used, re-manufactured, re-packaged goods, or those subject to any kind of reformulation, have been reduced to 2% from 14 November 2012 until 30 June 2014.

2.The Brazilian government has also adjusted the tariff schedule of certain products as follows:

  1. New tariff subheadings for certain yarn under NCM codes 5402.33.10, 5402.33.20 and 5402.33.90 which are subject to 18% tariff duty have been created..

  2. New tariff subheading for certain machinery under NCM code 8431.49.23 which is subject to 14% tariff duty has been created.

  3. The description for certain harvesting or threshing machinery under NCM code 8433.60.21 has been amended from "with a capcity greater than or equal to 36,000 eggs per hour" to "with a capcity greater than or equal to 250,000 eggs per hour".

  4. Tariff subheadings for machinery parts and accessories under NCM codes 8473.50.30, 8473.50.31, 8473.50.32, 8473.50.33, 8473.50.34, 8473.50.35 and 8473.50.39 have been deleted.
