Commercial Information Circular No. 1007/2013

Brazil : Conformity Certification Requirements for Various Products

The National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil issued Decrees in September and October 2013 to amend the conformity certification requirements or extend compliance dates for various products:

(a) Integrated Compact Fluorescent Lamps

The INMETRO issued Decree No. 471/2013 to extend the compliance date from 1 July 2013 to 1 July 2014 in respect of the conformity certification requirements which are set out in its Decree 489/2010 applicable to domestic sale of such products by manufacturers and importers. It also amended the requirements of the National Energy Conservation Label ("Etiqueta Nacional de Conservação de Energia / ENCE" in Spanish) for integrated compact fluorescent lamps.

(b) Sodium Vapour Lamps

The INMETRO issued Decree No. 479/2013 to amend the ENCE conformity certification requirements for sodium vapour lamps established under Decree 483/2010.

(c) Gas Stoves and Ovens

Pursuant to Commercial Information Circular (CIC) No. 832/2012 of 16 October 2012 that the INMETRO established the conformity certification requirements for gas stoves and ovens for household use, the INMETRO issued Decree No. 496/2013 to extend the related compliance dates.

  Compliance Date Application Criteria
(i) 3 August 2014 manufacture and import of such products
(ii) 3 August 2015 domestic sale of such products by
manufacturers and importers
(iii) 3 August 2016 domestic sale of such products by
all other parties
