Brazil : Amendment of the Conformity Certification Procedures for Certain Custody Chain for Forest-based Products

The National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil issued Decree No. 512/2012 on 17 October 2012 to amend the conformity certification procedures for certain custody chain for forest-based products, in compliance with the requirements of the standard ABNT NBR 14790 or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Scheme (PEFC) ST 2002. The compliance date of conformity certification requirements will be 17 October 2013.

2.The Decree requires the custody chain for forest-based products to be certified using certification System 6. The conformity certification for custody chain for forest-based products must be carried out by a Product Certification Body (Organismo de Certificação de Produto, OCP) accredited by the IMMETRO, or a PEFC Notified Body.
