Commercial Information Circular No. 903/2012

Brazil : Establishment of Tariff Rate Quotas and Modification of Import Tariffs on Various Products

The Brazilian Government has established tariff rate quotas on certain imports, as well as modified the import tariffs of a number of products. A summary of the changes is set out as follows:

  1. Import tariffs of certain air conditioning machines and parts classified under Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) Common Classification (NCM) code 8415.10.11 and 8415.90.20 have been reduced from 35% and 25% respectively to 18% from 1 September 2012.
  2. Import tariffs of a maximum of 80 units of certain fire fighting vehicles classified under NCM code 8705.30.00 have been reduced to 0% from 1 September 2012 to 16 March 2014.
  3. Import tariffs of certain plastic articles classified under NCM code 3926.90.40, would be increased to 18% from 1 September 2012.
  4. Import tariffs of a maximum of 6,000 tonnes of certain titanium oxide classified under NCM code 2823.00.10, would benefit from a 12-monh reduced duty rate of 2% from 4 September 2012 until 3 September 2013. Imports exceeding the quota will be subject to the normal tariff rate of 10%.
  5. Import tariffs of certain capital goods classified under NCM chapters 82, 84-87 and 89-90 have been reduced to 2% from 24 September 2012 until 30 June 2014.
  6. Import tariffs of certain computers and telecommunication products classified under NCM chapters 85 and 90 have been reduced to 2% from 24 September 2012 until 30 June 2014.
