US : CPSC's Proposed Safety Standard for Bassinets and Cradles

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued in the Federal Register (FR) of 18 October 2012 a notice proposing a safety standard for bassinets and cradles pursuant to the US Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA). Interested parties may submit comments on the proposed rule by 2 January 2013. The FR notice is available at: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2012-10-18/pdf/2012-24896.pdf.

DETAILS

2. Under the proposed rule, relevant standard developed by ASTM International (i.e., ASTM F2194-12, "Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Bassinets and Cradles") will be established as a consumer product safety standard for the subject products, but with certain changes. These changes include a revision to the bassinet stability test method; two additional requirements and associated test methods for mattress flatness and removable bassinet bed attachments; and revised scope and associated definitions or references.
