Commercial Information Circular No. 732/2012

Brazil : Conformity Certification Requirements for Solar Water Heating Equipment

The National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil issued Decree No. 352/2012 on 10 July 2012 to establish conformity certification requirements for solar water heating equipment. The Decree (in Portuguese) is available at: http://www.inmetro.gov.br/legislacao/rtac/pdf/RTAC001864.pdf.

2. The Decree requires solar water heating equipment to be certified using certification System 5 or System 7. The conformity certification for solar water heating equipment must be carried out by a Product Certification Body (Organismo de Certificação de Produto, OCP) accredited by the IMMETRO. 

3. For solar water heating equipment covered by the certification requirements, the compliance dates will be as follows:

  Compliance Date  Application Criteria
(i) 5 July 2013 manufacture and import of such products
(ii) 5 July 2014 domestic sale of such products by manufacturers and importers
(iii) 5 May 2015 domestic sale of such products by all other parties

4. For details of the above certification requirements, traders are advised to consult their importers in Brazil and/or the above Brazilian Decree.
