Commercial Information Circular No. 709/2012
US : Adjustment to the Cotton Import Charge
The trade was informed via Commercial Information Circular No. 538/2011 of 7 September 2011 that the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) of the US Department of Agriculture had adjusted an existing charge called "assessment" levied on US imports of cotton and the cotton content of imported products. The AMS issued on 28 August 2012 a final rule to further adjust the assessments collected on imported cotton, which will be effective on 27 September 2012. The final rule was published in the Federal Register available at: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2012-08-28/pdf/2012-20951.pdf.
DETAILS
2. The AMS will adjust the assessment from the existing US$0.012665 per kilogram of imported cotton to US$0.014109 per kilogram, and the cotton content of imported products to be the same as those paid on domestically produced cotton. It will also change the Harmonized Tariff Schedule statistical reporting numbers that were amended since the last assessment adjustment.
