Canada : Draft Model for Improving Food Inspection in Canada
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a news release on 9 August 2012 concerning a draft model for improving food inspection in Canada. DETAILS
2. To further strengthen food safety, CFIA is developing a more comprehensive inspection approach which will be applied across imported and domestic food commodities. In particular, CFIA is seeking comments from interested parties until 31 October 2012 on the following aspects of its draft model:
a single licensing and registration requirement for those manufacturing, importing and/or exporting food for trade outside the Canadian provincial borders;
more consistent oversight and inspection across all regulated food commodities;
a scaled approach that adapts to the size and complexity of businesses; and
the distribution of more information to consumers about compliance and enforcement activities.
