Brazil : Tariff Increase on Imported Products
The trade was informed via Commercial Information Circular No. 44/2012 of 16 January 2012 that the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), which includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, issued a Decision No. 39/2011 in December 2011 to authorise the four member states to temporarily increase tariffs until the end of 2014 on a number of imported products. Each member state may draw up its own list of products of not more than 100 MERCOSUR Common Classification (NCM) codes, subject to tariff increase not exceeding the bound rate allowed under the World Trade Organisation. The Brazilian Government issued Decree No. 7734/2012 on 25 May 2012 to incorporate Mercosur Decision No. 39/2011 into its national legislation.
