Commercial Information Circular No. 48/2012

MERCOSUR (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) : Technical Regulations on Personal Hygiene Products, Cosmetics and Perfumes

The Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), which includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, issued a Resolution No. 24/2011 on 18 November 2011 to establish technical regulations on restricting the use of a list of substances in personal hygiene products, cosmetics and perfumes, except under certain restrictions and conditions. The regulations have to be incorporated by member countries into their respective national legislation by 31 May 2012.

2. The list of substances not allowed to be used in personal hygiene products, cosmetics and perfumes are set out in the Annex of the Resolution.

3.For details, traders are advised to consult their importers in MERCOSUR member countries and/or the relevant MERCOSUR Resolution (in Spanish or Portuguese), which is available at: http://www.mercosur.int/innovaportal/v/3186/1/secretaria/resoluciones_2011.
