Dear Sirs,
Commercial Information Circular No. 387/2012
Brazil : Reduction in Import Tariffs for Capital Goods, Information Technology and Telecommunications Products
The Brazilian Government issued a Resolution No. 17/2012 on 5 April 2012 to provide for import tariff reduction for capital goods, information technology and telecommunications products, and their spare parts and components which have no domestic production in Brazil. The Resolution has come into effect on 5 April 2012.
2. The reduction in the import tariff will not apply to used products or integrated systems. Companies may apply to the Production Development Secretariat (or “Secretaria de Desenvolvimento da Produção” in Portuguese) of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil for reduction of import tariffs for capital goods, information technology and telecommunications products, and the approved list will be published by the end of each quarter.
3. For details of the above import tariff reduction, traders are advised to consult their importers in Brazil and/or the above Brazilian Resolution (in Portuguese), which is available at: http://www.mdic.gov.br/arquivos/dwnl_1333650857.pdf.
