Commercial Information Circular No. 283/2012
Brazil : Conformity Certification Requirements for School Chairs and Tables
The National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil issued Decree No. 105/2012 on 8 March 2012 to establish conformity certification requirements for school chairs and tables. The Decree (in Portuguese) is available at: http://www.inmetro.gov.br/legislacao/rtac/pdf/RTAC001798.pdf.
2.The Decree requires school chairs and tables to be certified as in compliance with the requirements of the standard ABNT NBR 14006 in accordance with certification System 5 or System 7, and carry a Conformity Identification Seal (Selo de Identificação da Conformidade). The conformity certification for school chairs and tables must be carried out by a Product Certification Body (Organismo de Certificação de Produto, OCP) accredited by the INMETRO.
3.The compliance dates of the products concerned will be as follows:

| (i) | 8 September 2013 | manufacture and import of such products |
| (ii) | 8 March 2014 | domestic sale of such products by manufacturers and importers |
| (iii) | 8 March 2015 | domestic sale of such products by all other parties |
4.For details of the conformity certification requirements, traders are advised to consult their importers in Brazil and/or the above Brazilian Decree.
