Brazil : Conformity Certification Requirements for Various Types of Fans and Air Circulators
The National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil issued Decree No. 20/2012 on 20 January 2012 to establish conformity certification requirements for desk fans, wall fans, pedestal fans, and air circulators or similar appliances. The Decree (in Portuguese) is available at: http://www.inmetro.gov.br/legislacao/rtac/pdf/RTAC001790.pdf.
2.The conformity certification requirements apply to desk fans, wall fans, pedestal fans, and air circulators or similar appliances for domestic use which must be classified with the climate class "T" (tropical) in accordance with standard IEC 60335-2-80, and have nominal single phase voltages of 127 V or 220 V, with a frequency of 60Hz. The energy efficiency requirements only apply to models with a blade diameter of 26 cm to 60cm.
3.The Decree requires desk fans, wall fans, pedestal fans, and air circulators or similar appliances to be certified using certification System 5 or System 7, and carry a Conformity Identification Seal (Selo de Identificação da Conformidade) or National Energy Conservation Label (Etiqueta Nacional de Conservação de Energia, ENCE) under the Brazilian Labelling Programme (Programa Brasileiro de Etiquetagem, PBE). The conformity certification for such fans and air circulators must be carried out by a Product Certification Body (Organismo de Certificação de Produto, OCP) accredited by the INMETRO.
4.The compliance dates of the products concerned will be as follows:

| (ii) | 20 January 2013 | domestic sale of such products by manufacturers and importers |
| (iii) | 20 January 2014 | domestic sale of such products by all other parties |
5.For details of the conformity certification requirements, traders are advised to consult their importers in Brazil and/or the above Brazilian Decree.
