Dear Sirs,
Commercial Information Circular No. 167/2012
US: Final Rule on Importation of Wooden Handicrafts from the Mainland of China
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the US Department of Agriculture published in the Federal Register (FR) of 1 March 2012 a final rule amending the regulations to provide for the importation of wooden handicrafts from the Mainland of China. The FR notice is available at: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2012-03-01/pdf/2012-4962.pdf.
DETAILS
2.In 2005, APHIS suspended the importation of most wooden handicrafts (i.e., all handicrafts made from wooden logs, limbs, branches, or twigs greater than 1 centimeter in diameter) from the Mainland of China until a more thorough evaluation of the pest risks associated with these articles could be conducted. Based on a pest risk analysis, APHIS published in 2009 and 2010 proposals to authorize the importation of wooden handicrafts from the Mainland of China subject to certain conditions. The trade was informed via Commercial Information Circular Nos. 190/2009 of 15 April 2009 and 435/2010 of 27 September 2010 of the developments.
3.APHIS has now issued a final rule to amend the regulations to provide for the importation of wooden handicrafts from the Mainland of China under certain conditions. For details, please refer to the above-mentioned FR notice. This final rule is effective 30 April 2012.
