Commercial Information Circular No. 700/2011

US : Amendments to the Final Rule on Adjustment to the Cotton Import Charge

The trade was informed via Commercial Information Circular No. 538/2011 of 7 September 2011 that the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) of the US Department of Agriculture had issued a final rule to adjust upwards an existing charge called "assessment" levied on US imports of cotton and the cotton content of imported products. The AMS published a notice in the Federal Register (FR) of 8 November 2011 to make corrections to the final rule, which took effect from 8 Novmber 2011. DETAILS

2. Corrections are made to the final rule to remove expired Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes and HTS codes representing ensembles. Furthermore, conversion factors and assessment rates for two HTS codes, which were inadvertently excluded from the final rule, are added, and clerical errors associated with three different HTS codes are corrected. The revised import assessment table is at the FR notice.
