Dear Sirs,
Commercial Information Circular No. 573/2011
Brazil : The "Bigger Brazil" Plan
The Brazilian Government has recently announced the "Bigger Brazil" plan (or the "Plano Brasil Maior" in Portuguese), which is a new industrial plan to protect and boost Brazil's domestic industries against international competition. The Plan has established national policies for industry, technology, services and international trade for the 2011-14 period. For further information of the Plan, please visit the website of the Brazilian authorities (in Portuguese) at www.brasilmaior.mdic.gov.br.
DETAILS
2.The Plan comprises a wide array of measures, which can be broadly grouped into three main categories: protection of local industry, international trade, and investment and innovation. Examples of the measures include tax exemption for certain industries, government procurement preference for domestic suppliers, export tax refund, intensification of trade defence measures (such as shortening the timeframe for completing anti-dumping or countervailing investigations and that for applying provisional measures), expansion of the list of imports subject to mandatory certification, providing financing for investment and innovation, etc.
3.For details of the Bigger Brazil plan, traders are advised to consult their importers in Brazil and/or the above Plan.
