US : New York State to Ban certain Flame Retardant in Childcare Products
The US State of New York enacted a law on 1 August 2011 to prohibit the sale or offer for sale of any childcare products containing the flame retardants tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate with effect from 1 December 2013, being the first US state to approve such legislation. The "Tris-free Children and Babies Act" is available at the website of the New York State Senate at:

2.Under this law of the New York State, a childcare product is defined as a consumer product intended for use by children under three years of age, such as baby products, toys, car seats, nursing pillows, crib mattresses, and strollers. This prohibition will not be applicable to the sale or distribution of childcare products resold or offered for resale in the New York State, or products distributed by consumers for consumer use.
