Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 510/2011

US : Possible Impacts on Textiles and Clothing Products by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 - Part 5

Traders have been informed via Commercial Information Circulars (CIC) from time to time of developments with respect to the implementation of the US Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA). In particular, CIC No. 574/2008 dated 18 November 2008, CIC No. 598/2008 dated 1 December 2008, CIC No. 118/2009 dated 5 March 2009 and CIC No. 42/2010 dated 22 January 2010 summarised the possible impacts of the CPSIA on textiles and clothing products. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has since modified the enforcement schedule of testing and certification requirements and made several clarifications to the CPSIA. In order to facilitate traders to have a clearer understanding of the latest CPSIA requirements on textiles and clothing, some frequently asked questions (FAQs) are prepared at Annex (pdf format).

2.Traders are reminded that the information contained in the FAQs is for reference only. While every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy, the Trade and Industry Department shall accept no responsibility for any errors, omissions or misrepresentations. 3. Traders are strongly advised to seek clarifications with their importers in the US in order to comply with the necessary requirements.
