Commercial Information Circular No. 366/2011

Argentina : Energy Efficiency Standards for Certain Refrigerators and Freezers

The Argentine Government has issued a Resolution (No. 198/2011) to establish mandatory energy efficiency standards for certain refrigerators and freezers. The Resolution (in Spanish) is available at http://infoleg.mecon.gov.ar/infolegInternet/anexos/180000-184999/182529/norma.htm.

2. According to the Resolution, the Argentine Government requires (i) household front-opening or top-opening (chest type) freezers; (ii) refrigerators and freezers with more than two doors; and (iii) other miscellaneous refrigeration appliances, to comply with the minimum level of energy efficiency standards corresponding to Class C requirements as established by the Instituto Argentino de Normalización y Certificación (IRAM) Standard 2404-3:1998 with effect from 1 September 2011.

3. For details, traders are advised to consult their importers in Argentina and/or the above Argentine Resolution.
