Commercial Information Circular No. 342/2011

Brazil : Establishment of Tariff Rate Quotas and Modification of Import Tariffs on Various Products

The Brazilian Government has modified the import tariffs of a number of products, as well as established tariff rate quotas on certain imports. A summary of the changes is set out as follows:

  1. Beginning 7 April 2011, import tariffs of certain latex gloves classified under Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) Common Classification (NCM) code 4015.19.00 Ex 001 have been increased from 16% to 35%.
  2. Import tariffs of certain capital goods and integrated system components have been reduced to 2% from 7 April 2011 until 30 June 2012.
  3. Import tariffs of certain computer and telecommunications products classified under NCM codes 8473.30.99 Ex 001, 8517.62.49 Ex 006, 8536.50.90 Ex 002 and 9032.89.21 Ex 002 have been reduced to 2% from 7 April 2011 until 30 June 2012.
  4. Import tariffs of certain electrical machines and apparatus classified under NCM code 8543.70.99 Ex 056 have been reduced to zero from 7 April 2011 until 30 June 2012.
  5. Import tariffs of certain computer and telecommunications products classified under NCM codes 8517.62.51 Ex 002, 8541.30.29 Ex 002, 8543.70.39 Ex 001 and 9030.89.90 Ex 018 have been reduced to 2% from 5 May 2011 until 30 June 2012.
  6. Import tariffs of certain capital goods and integrated system components have been reduced to 2% from 5 May 2011 until 30 June 2012.
  7. A maximum of 3,000 tonnes of 4,4'-Isopropylidenediphenol (bisphenol A, diphenylolpropane) and its salts classified under NCM code 2907.23.00 would benefit from a 6-month reduced duty rate of 2% with effect from 17 May 2011. Imports exceeding the quota will be subject to the normal tariff rate of 12%.
  8. A maximum of 30,000 tonnes of certain iron or non-alloy steel flat-rolled products of a thickness exceeding 10 millimetres classified under NCM code 7208.51.00 Ex 005 would benefit from a reduced duty rate of 2% from 17 May 2011 until 31 December 2011. Imports exceeding the quota will be subject to the normal tariff rate of 12%.
