Brazil : Establishment of Tariff Rate Quota and Modification of Import Tariffs on Various Products
The Brazilian Government has recently modified the import tariffs of a number of products, as well as established a tariff rate quota on imports of terephthalic acid and its salts. A summary of the changes is set out as follows:
- Beginning 11 February 2011, import tariffs of terephthalic acid and its salts classified under Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) Common Classification (NCM) code 2917.36.00 have been increased from zero to 12%. That said, the subject merchandise can continue to enjoy duty free treatment within a tariff rate quota of 150,000 tonnes from 11 February 2011 until 31 July 2011. Imports exceeding the quota will be subject to the new tariff rate of 12%.
- Import tariffs of certain computer and telecommunications products, integrated system components, and capital goods have been reduced to 2% from 16 February 2011 until 30 June 2012.
- Beginning 17 February 2011, the import tariffs of certain amino-resins classified under NCM code 3909.30.20 have been increased from 14% to 20%.
- Beginning 17 February 2011, the import tariffs of certain gloves, mittens and mitts classified under NCM code 4015.19.00 have been increased from 16% to 35%. The import tariffs of products classified under NCM code 4015.19.00 Ex 001 will remain at 16%.
- Beginning 1 March 2011, the import tariffs of certain rubber or plastics moulds for injection or compression classified under NCM code 8480.71.00 have been increased from 14% to 30%.
- Beginning 17 February 2011, the import tariffs of certain trailers and semi-trailers classified under NCM code 8716.40.00 Ex 001 have been reduced from 35% to zero.
