23 February 2010

Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 87/2010

US : Correction to the Final Rule on Requirements for Consumer Registration of Durable Infant or Toddler Products

The trade was informed via Commercial Information Circular No. 665/2009 that the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued in the Federal Register (FR) notice of 29 December 2009 a final rule under Section 104(d) of the US Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 requiring manufacturers of durable infant or toddler products to establish and maintain a system for consumers to register their products with the manufacturer. The CPSC later found a discrepancy between the text describing the registration form and the figures illustrating the form. The regulatory text reversed the location of information on the bottom of the form. To address this, the CPSC issued another FR notice on 22 February 2010 to make certain corrections to the above final rule. The corrections will become effective on 28 June 2010. Details of the corrections are set out in the FR notice. A copy (pdf format) of the FR notice is appended to this circular for reference.
