US : Certain Updates related to the Lacey Act Declarations

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has updated some postings related to the US Lacey Act declarations on its website. Details are available at http://www.aphis.usda.gov/plant_health/lacey_act/index.shtml.

The APHIS has posted to its website a "Guidance on Special Use (or Species) Codes" containing a comprehensive list of the Special Use (or Species) Codes for use in completing the PPQ505 Plant and Plant Product Declaration Form. These Special Use Codes, for Box 14 (Scientific Name) and Box 15 (Country of Harvest) of the PPQ Form 505, have been created to simplify the declaration process for certain complex goods and for goods that meet other specific criterion. The "Clarification on Quantity and Unit of Measure", "Guidance on the Usage of Common Trade Groupings" and "Guidance for Filing Declarations for Composite, Recycled, and/or Reused Materials" have also been updated. 
    

3. Traders are advised to visit the above APHIS website for the latest information regarding the Lacey Act. Traders are also strongly advised to seek clarifications with their importers in the US in order to comply with the necessary requirements.
