Commercial Information Circular No. 450/2010

Brazil : Establishment of Tariff Rate Quota and Modification of Import Tariffs on Various Products

The Brazilian Government has recently established tariff rate quotas on imports of certain products, as well as modified the import tariffs of a number of products. A summary of the changes is set out as follows:

  1. A maximum of 800 tonnes of certain flat-rolled carbon steel plates classified under Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) Common Classification (NCM) codes 7208.51.00 would benefit from a reduced tariff rate of 2% for six months beginning 28 July 2010.

  1. A maximum of 250 tonnes of certain clad flat-rolled iron or steel plates classified under NCM 7210.90.00 would benefit from a reduced tariff rate of 2% for six months beginning 28 July 2010.

  1. Import tariffs of a number of information technology and telecommunications products, and capital goods have been reduced to 2% until 30 June 2012.

  1. Import tariffs of parts and accessories for dolls representing human beings as well as parts and accessories for toys classified under NCM 9503.00.99 has been reduced from 20% to 2% starting from 17 August 2010.

  1. Import tariffs of certain mixtures of isocyanate isomers classified under NCM 2929.10.21 has been increased from 14% to 28% starting from 17 August 2010.

  1. The duty exemption for machines for cleaning, sorting or grading eggs with a capacity of at least 36,000 eggs per hour classified under NCM 8433.60.21 has been removed and a 14% tariff has been imposed starting from 17 August 2010.
