Commercial Information Circular No. 318/2010

Brazil : Establishment of Tariff Rate Quotas and Modification of Import Tariffs on Various Products

The Brazilian Government has recently established tariff rate quotas on imports of certain products, as well as modified the import tariffs of a number of products. A summary of the changes are set out as follows:

  1. Certain ethyl alcohol classified under Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) Common Classification (NCM) codes 2207.10.00 and 2207.20.10 have been added to the list of exceptions to the MERCOSUR external tariffs from 23 April 2010 and are now subject to zero tariff rate.

  1. A maximum of 150,000 tonnes of palm kernel oil other than crude oil classified under NCM code 1513.29.10 would benefit from a reduced tariff rate of 2% from 29 April 2010.

  1. A maximum of 450,000 units of backed refined copper foil of the kind used for printed circuits classified under NCM code 7410.21.10 would benefit from a reduced tariff rate of 2% from 29 April 2010.

  1. A maximum of 10,000 tonnes of electrodes used to cover electrolytic vats used in the production of primary aluminium classified under NCM code 8545.19.90 would benefit from a reduced tariff rate of 2% from 29 April 2010.

  1. Import tariffs of a number of information technology and telecommunications products, and capital goods have been temporarily reduced to 2% from 30 April 2010 to 31 December 2011.
